Students in 6th Grade Reading at PTMS do not have a set amount of required AR Points or AR Books to read. Students are encouraged instead to chose good quality literature, not based on point value or level, but on the strength of story line and value of characters. It is my hope the students will find a genre, character, or author to fall in love with this year that will ignite the love of reading. In order for them to experience more than what they usually pick up in the library, they will be required to read different literature genres each semester. After reading, students will be taking an AR test and more importantly will respond to the literature in a report where they will take the time to reflect back on and process the text before jumping into the next book. Book reports are due as shown below and will be organized in reading folders that will remain "docked" in the classroom. ( So, each book=2 grades...one for AR test, one for book report.) There will be one opportunity each semester for an extra credit book report assignment as well.
What to do:
1. Read a book. (Make sure it fits the genre you need. Three different ones each semester.)
2. Find the book report paper for the genre you read in the pink file box.
3. Do the book report.
4. Take an AR test over the book.
5. Make sure the book is recorded on your log sheet and the report is in your folder by the due date!
6. Start on the next book.
**Because you know now when each report is due there is NO EXCUSE for late work. Please feel free to work ahead, but don't fall behind.
