This week we will begin a baseball reading unit that will take us all the way to fall break and well into MLB post-season play. We will read the following pieces of text during this unit:

**** Book Report and Sept AR Test **** **** Due Friday, September 29th **** ** If you would like to participate in SEE YOU AT THE POLE, students will be gathering around the flagpole Wednesday, Sept 27th at 7:40 a.m.. *** THANK YOU for the book orders and the generous donations through Amazon. Books are already in the hands of students where they can be read and enjoyed! I was able to order 20 new books through Scholastic and look forward to students experiencing great stories! Monday and Tuesday: We will be working with an article about peer pressure that outlines ways to handle it. We will use the article to practice dictionary skills, review fact and opinion, apply characterization, and write a short article response.
Wednesday: We will review Types of Characters by reviewing notes and completing a short assignment. Thursday: Library Day, if you have not tested on your book report day, this would be the time to get that done. There will also be time to work on book reports in class. Friday: (Book Report Due) We will have a Reading Test over The Tail. This test will include comprehension questions about the story and focus on characterization. There will also be a vocabulary test over the words found through the link below. Students will be given a passage of text with missing words, they must chose the correct vocabulary word for each blank.

**FRIDAY, SEPT 22nd - BOOK ORDERS DUE** Monday: New vocabulary will be introduced and we will read a selection from our reader entitled The Tail Tuesday: Lesson on Direct and Indirect Characterization, Notes in Notebook
Wednesday: We will explore Types of Characters, Notes in Notebook
Thursday: Library Day *Have Your Book At School!*
Friday: Vocabulary Quiz, Characaterization/Types of Characters Graded Assignment

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! This week we will be focusing on plot structure through the reading of Stray by Cynthia Rylant. We will have a vocabulary list of 16 words. There will be a vocabulary quiz this over definitions this Friday and the words will reappear on next Friday's reading assessment where the definitions will need to be applied not just memorized.
