I apologize for the lack of posting this week...in all honesty, there was no news to report! We finished up our Gold Rush unit today with a research project on the iPads. It was both fun and educational... easing us right on into Thanksgiving break! (Well, in my opinion it was fun anyway.) I wanted you all to know how thankful I am for every bit of support you show my classroom and your child's education. Perkins is a great town with great schools, and during this season of thankfulness, I wanted you to know I'm grateful we are in this together. I leave you with my favorite Thanksgiving meme... Have a Super Awesome holiday! See you November 27th! (Book reports will be due Dec. 8th... just a reminder in case you need to read a little over break.)
** Picture retakes are Wednesday, Nov 8th. Tell the office if you would like to be on the retake list.
For the next two weeks we will be working through a Klondike Gold Rush Unit. We will be reading text of differing genres and points of view over the course of the unit. This week we will read a short story by Jack London called "The King of Mazy May," a web article exploring the experiences of Chinese and African American's during the gold rush, and a letter from the perspective of a woman gold rusher. We will have a vocabulary quiz over the gold rush vocabulary list this Friday, November 10th.
The following video from PBS provides an in-depth look at the Klondike Gold Rush. We will watch a small excerpt in class to help set the scene and build background knowledge for our unit. Here is the full video if you are interested.
