This week we begin a two-week baseball unit. Over the course of the unit we will be reading various genres of text that are all centered on America's game. This week we will read the heroic story of Jackie Robinson and read about women's baseball during World War 2. The following flash cards are from the 36 word unit vocabulary list. These words will show up 3 or 4 at a time on the reading assessments throughout the unit and will be tested on the end of unit vocabulary quiz as well, so start studying now!

This week we are reading a selection entitled The Circuit to study two reading skills: making and inference and theme. The vocabulary for this story was introduced last Friday and will be quizzed on Sept 21st. Follow the link below to study. This week is homecoming week and our theme is UP!
Monday - Just show UP. Tuesday- Surf's UP Wednesday- Dress UP (It's Picture Day!) Thursday- Cowboy UP! Friday- Pump it UP! Show your DEMON PRIDE!!! Don't forget to come UP to the McIllvain Field Friday night to support the Demons as well! They will be playing the Mannford Pirates at 7:00. This week we will not have a new vocabulary list. We will have an assessment over last week's story, Stray, review fact and opinion, read an article entitled "A Place for Strays", and write a short opinion essay regarding animals shelters. We will also have quite a bit of class time this week to read library books and get familiar with and started on the book report processes. My hope is, given time this week, everyone will be on track for the first report due date, September 28th.
Notes about Book Reports:
This week we have a new vocabulary list that will be quizzed over on Friday and revisited for next week's test as well. The list is an easy one, but start studying now to be ready!
On Wednesday and Thursday we will be writing notes in our notebook and discussing the elements of plot. This video is an excellent review if you miss those days or would like to brush up on the topic.
