I am usually a once a week poster, but this year I've yet to get around to it and I apologize. The kiddos are doing a great job settling in, getting lockers open, and getting to class. We spent some time organizing last Friday and that REALLY seemed to help! Thank you for the purchase of supplies and for your support as we started this year! I will try to continue to update you through this blog. (HOWEVER... I have to admit to being human so I forsee some misses. :))
Book Reports
The students know all about book reports at this point, but I thought you might like to hear the process directly from me. So... here are the highlights:
Personal Note
I am in my final semester of graduate school, working toward obtaining a Masters degree in Educational Administration. Which means... 19 written assignments and 120 logged hours of administrator duty in addition to teaching being a football wife and mom... so, no sweat really. :) I just wanted to let you know, that this will require that I be out of the classroom 3 or 4 times this semester to shadow administrators, but other than that it should not interfere with the classroom. I just wanted to let you know. Please don't hesitate to contact me anytime day or night through remind, your child's success is very important and I want to help when and where I can.

We finished up our STARS test prep unit last Friday with the end of unit test. I was VERY pleased with how everyone did...seriously, great work! This week we will begin working on a novel unit that will take us through the remainder of the year. We will be reading The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. It is vitally important that the story remain a mystery in order for us to enjoy its twists and turns as a class. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LOOK UP, through google or any other means, ANYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK. I will discuss this further in class. This week we also need to finish up last week's vocabulary. There will be a test on the following words on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Enrollment packets for 7th Grade are coming home today! They have to be COMPLETELY filled out and signed...the OSSAA paper must be signed by all students NOT just athletes. The packets are to be returned to me ASAP. I will be numbering them upon receiving them. Schedules will be created and electives will be selected according to that number. SO, turn the packets in quickly to ensure you get the electives you would like! Please turn the papers in to ME, not the office. You are welcome to bring them to me before first hour or anytime during the day. THANKS!
No School Friday or all next week for Spring Break! Enjoy your time! :)
I apologize for the lag in communication here lately! We've had a weird few weeks with student absences due to illness, snow days, and a few days I was gone as well. I'm trying to get everyone on the same page, caught up on work...and on track for book reports as well. We have started the ball rolling on some "test prep" type lessons that we will be covering for the next few weeks. The program reviews 12 essential reading skills including main idea, fact and opinion, drawing conclusions, making predictions, and more. We will keep doing some vocabulary throughout this as well using lists from the Wordly Wise 3000 resource. We started the lesson one list this week. The test over these words will be next Friday, March 8th.
